PHYSICS PROJECT: RESISTIVE FORCES IN CYCLING

Investigation on Resistive Forces in Cycling

Introduction

What is the Aim of this project?

I plan to do a project connecting the topics cycling and physics together.

Specifically, I am going to do and present research on the movement of bicycles and the designs it has in order to decrease the resistive force applying on it as it moves forward, and the effects of certain components of the bike that helps achieve this goal, and by decreasing air resistance what are the outcomes of the bikes.

Why I choose to do this topic?

I find this topic very interesting, because it connects to my personal life. Cycling is an important part of my life, and I am very interested in cycling. It is one of my greatest hobbies in terms of sports.

From past experiences, I have cycled to lots of different places, including Taihu, Hangzhou, and Hainan.

Because cycling is an important aspect of my life, I would like to research areas related to this topic, since it is something that is related to my daily life, and I wish to improve my understanding in the field of cycling through this project and through investigations.

I want to find out how these forces change under different conditions, such as different speed or surfaces, and how that affects how easy or hard it feels to ride.

Notice: Air resistance includes a variety of kinds, e.g. Air resistance in terms of height etc. In this site, the term Air resistance refers to the drag force an object faces when it is moving through air, mostly horizontally.
